Storytellers

English class has always seemed kind of silly to me. Reading books and analyzing the meaning behind the lamp shade in correspondence to Blanche DuBois, or the flowers at the end Of Mice and Men. All the allusions in the chapter of Simon’s death, And what Piggy’s glasses represented. I can’t imagine that all these authors truly wrote in some of these little details to express some underlining meaning or symbolism. I can’t imagine writing a story and saying to myself that some random reoccurring inanimate object shall long and behold be a symbol of youth or something else. It seems so far fetched and cryptic. Instead, I like to assume the complete opposite. That these authors had no intention of having the lamp shade be of greater observation or the damned flowers. In a sense, all these little details can represent the little insignificant things that we choose to overreact to. It is irony and hypocrisy in itself.
